About Vrachinari Beach
Located 40 km west of Argostoli and 10 km southwest of Lixouri in Kefalonia, Vrachinari Beach is one of the most beautiful of the island. The beach is sandy with some pebbles mixed in, making it perfect for laying out a towel and relaxing, though sun beds are available. The water is crystal clear and ideal for an afternoon swim or simply cooling down on a hot day. The surrounding greenery adds the the ambiance of the beach.
Spending time at Vrachinari Beach is going to offer you an afternoon of lounging under the sun and swimming in the refreshing water. The beach is ideal if you are visiting with children. The secluded location makes it a perfect little getaway for families as it isn’t frequented as much as beaches that are closer to the busy and popular resorts of Kefalonia. Sun beds and umbrellas are available for rent, but you can bring your own towels if you prefer. There is a café on site, when you need a drink or delicious meal. If you drive to Vrachinari Beach, there is a small parking lot.
Get to Know the Beach
Vrachinari Beach is just a short distance from the town of Lixouri. Lixouri is the second largest town of Kefalonia, behind Argostoli. The town is lovely with its tree-lined streets that are well-constructed. The squares of the village are nicely decorated and the gardens of the home are colorful with flowers.
One of the most important sites in Lixouri is the Typaldoi-Iakovatoi mansion, which now serves as a library with a collection of over 25,000 books and many rare publications. The mansion was one of the few buildings that survived the earthquake of 1953. Lixouri is divided into two sections due to the stream that runs through the town. There are small bridges that allow you to cross from one side to the other.
If you explore the village of Argostoli, which is 40 km from Vrachinari, the central square of Argostoli is a great place to start. From there you can walk to the Lithostroto pedestrian mall street. As you walk the street you will find souvenirs, coffee shops, and traditional products.
Getting to Kefalonia, Greece can be done by ferry or by plane. The island is home to four ports that receive ferries from various destinations. Once on the island, you can get to almost any location, even remote beaches, by bus. This is an ideal choice if you don’t mind sticking to a schedule. You can also get around by taxi or rental car. If you prefer doing things on your own schedule, this might be your best option.
