While on your trip to Athens, Greece, you’ll likely want to preserve your experiences with some great photographs. In order to really look back on your time in this historical city, it helps to have a mix of photos that will instantly bring you back. This includes things like shots with people in them, pictures of popular landmarks, and even some snapshots of the food that you ate. One of the most interesting of these photos, however, will be those you take when you have a great view. Here is a look at some of the best places to go in Athens to enjoy a great view:
Acropolis
While visiting the Acropolis, you’ll no doubt want to take pictures of all the popular landmarks here, such as the Parthenon, Agora, the Sanctuary of Zeus, and the ancient theater, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. However, you won’t want to spend all of your time here looking at the sites. Take a moment to step out and look beyond the Acropolis. Since it is perched on a hill, you can easily see a lot of the city. Be prepared to take a short hike to the top where the best views are.
Filopappou Hill
Also known as the Hill of Muses, Filopappou Hill is another place that you can walk to the top of so you can see some great views of the city. Located to the south of the Acropolis, this hill can give you some great views of the Acropolis itself, especially if you have a camera with a nice zoom. If you happen to be here during Easter, you’ll also have a chance to photograph the children of the city flying their kites.
Lycabettus Hill
If you’re looking for a spot that will give you a 360 degree view of Athens, you should head to Lycabettus Hill. Because of its vantage point, this is not only a great place to look out at the city, but it is also an ideal spot to take both sunset and sunrise photographs. Once you’re here, you’ll notice locals and visitors alike strolling around the area or even going for a vigorous run. You’ll need to take a short hike in order to get to the top, but once you get here, you’ll see that it was well worth the effort.
Mount Immitos
Did you know that there is a mountain range that can be found right in the city? For some of the best panoramic views of Athens that you can find, consider hiking up Mount Immitos. The mountain itself isn’t in the middle of the city, but it does border it. Since this is a pretty high point, you’ll be able to take plenty of pictures of the views as you exercise.
If you want to enjoy the view of Athens, consider finding one of these places. Depending on your fitness level, you might find some of these walks to be fairly challenging. Make sure you have good footwear and plenty of water before you get started.
