Comments Off on Restaurants You Need to Try in Mykonos
Sure, Mykonos is known throughout the world for its nightlife and festive beaches. There are also plenty of other sites to see when you’re not partying or lounging at the beach. However, don’t ignore the restaurants! The island has a great collection of restaurants serving anywhere from traditional Greek food to modern twists on the classics. Here is a list of some of the best restaurants that you won’t want to miss while on the island:
Avli Tou Thodori
Are you tired of visiting the traditional island tavernas? While those are certainly an important part of the experience, visiting them every day of your vacation can get monotonous. That’s where Avli Tou Thodori comes into play. This is one of those restaurants that serves up traditional Greek foods in a more international environment. Located in Platis Gialos and overlooking the sea, this is a restaurant you won’t want to miss. Order a meal and stay for a while enjoying the view.
Blue Myth Restaurant
As the name suggests, this restaurant celebrates the enchantment of the sea. Also located in Platis Gialos, this is one of those restaurants whose view is just as stunning as the food itself. The decor in the restaurant is selected to maximize your enjoyment of the waters. The whitewashed tables are in stark contrast to the deep blue of the water. Highlights on the menu include freshly caught seafood, souvlaki, and a Greek version of the classic pizza.
Funky Kitchen
The Funky Kitchen has long been considered one of those hidden gems that are worth seeking out. Located in Mykonos Town, this restaurant features classic Greek foods with an international twist, all in a funky, modern environment. Start your meal with their signature tzatziki and hummus, order one of their delicious specialties, such as the freshly caught seafood, and wash it all down with a glass of Greek wine.
Aqua Taverna
The Aqua Taverna is the place to be if you actually don’t want to eat Greek food! Sure, that’s one of the reasons why you’d go to Mykonos, but sometimes you just want to try something different. This restaurant’s take on Italian food actually does have a Greek influence. Located in Mykonos Town, this place does seem to fill up around sunset or a little earlier, indicating that it is popular with the tourists. Locals don’t eat dinner until much later! However, the quality of the food makes this restaurant worth visiting. This is where you go when you want something a little fancier, too, like risotto with fennel and dishes that have black truffle cream.
Kiki’s
Also referred to as “Kiki’s Tavern”, this is a restaurant that is popular with locals and tourists alike. Perched on a hill that overlooks the beach, Kiki’s is so popular there isn’t even a sign! If you find yourself at Agios Sostis Beach, this is the place to be. If you want to eat lunch here, get there early so that you can secure one of the tables by the water. This is the place to be if you want a traditional taverna and would like to eat right by the beach.
These Mykonos restaurants are places you absolutely must visit while on the island.
