Enjoy Ftelia Beach on Mykonos

Written by in , Comments Off on Enjoy Ftelia Beach on Mykonos

Just north of Mykonos Town, you will find the beautifully bohemian, yet windy, Ftelia Beach. Although Ftelia Beach is known for its whipping gusts, that doesn’t stop travelers from making the seven-kilometer trek to Ftelia. Thanks to the Meltemi Cycladic wind, this little beach is one of the hottest windsurfing spots in Greece.

While Ftelia Beach may not be ideal for sunbathing, you’ll have a better chance of getting a sunbed here than on the more crowded beaches. This beach is well worth visiting! Here’s more information:

About Ftelia Beach

Ftelia Beach is located on Mykonos Island in Greece. Because of the Cycladic wind, Ftelia has become a prime location for windsurfing any day of the year. Aside from strong winds, Ftelia is also home to a Neolithic settlement and the tomb of Ajax the Locrian, a famous war hero featured in the Iliad.

Ftelia Beach is secluded, and it’s rarely crowded. While Mykonos gets busy during peak summer months, Ftelia is almost always quiet due to its gusty nature. If you don’t mind the wind, Ftelia is an introvert’s paradise. Although Ftelia isn’t developed, many visitors find the beach’s natural state to be a peaceful respite from bustling Mykonos Town.

What to Do at Ftelia Beach

Aside from windsurfing, Ftelia Beach offers plenty of opportunities for fun and relaxation. Despite the wind, there are sunbeds available for tanning and napping. Visitors are also free to lay out a towel or splash in the water, but extra care must be taken to secure your belongings from the breeze. Picnics, photography, and kite flying are also popular on Ftelia Beach. Whether you want to feel the wind in your hair as you surf through the clear water or escape the crowds for a more tranquil scene, Ftelia Beach offers excitement and peace in one, easy-to-reach location.

Getting to Ftelia Beach

Travelers can access Ftelia Beach by car or private transfer. If you are renting a car while visiting Greece, getting from Mykonos Town to Ftelia Beach is no trouble at all. Head north from Mykonos Town towards Ano Mera, and you will reach Ftelia Beach in under twenty minutes. It’s a quick drive and there will be ample parking when you reach the beach, making it one of the easiest excursions from Mykonos Town you can take.

While Ftelia Beach is remote and undeveloped, it offers natural beauty and peace you won’t find on the touristy parts of the island. Ftelia Beach offers visitors the chance to take a break from their travel itineraries and scheduled activities in exchange for a raw, unspoiled look at the Greek landscape.

Though windy, Ftelia remains one of the best day trips from Mykonos Town for locals and travelers in need of a break from the crowds. Whether you want to take advantage of the Meltemi and go windsurfing or simply take a walk along the stunning shoreline, Ftelia has something for every traveler.
