Fiscardo is a small village in Kefalonia, Greece. Fiscardo is located 50 km north of Argostoli, the capital of the island of Kefalonia. The village of Fiscardo is based around the waterfront where small fishing boats and private yachts dock. Fiscardo is a fishing that is a traditional settlement that is is recognized as preservable as it is the only village that was not destroyed during the earthquake of 1953. Though traditional, the village is known for being cosmopolitan.

Fiscardo is surrounded by natural beauty including breathtaking beaches that are pebbled and have coves. The water at the beaches is crystalline and calm, ideal for swimming. Fiscardo is also home to some gorgeous Byzantine churches and other sites of interest. The Venetian Lighthouse of Fiscardo, the Roman Cemetery of Fiscardo, and the Basilica of Fiscardo are attractions visitors won’t want to miss.

You can get to the Greek island of Kefalonia by ferry or by plane. The airport of Kefalonia receives flights from Athens and Thessaloniki. Both flights times are around one hour making them the quickest option. Flights also come from abroad during the summer months. Once in Kefalonia, you can rent a car or take a taxi or bus to Fiscardo.

Fiscardo is a popular village for tourists to visit. The main coastal road is rich in bars, fish tavernas, and shops. It’s a lovely place to take a stroll and browse the shops at your leisure. You can enjoy a meal sitting close to the edge of the water for a charming view of the boats and surrounding area. So close to the boats, in fact, that you’ll be able to see the people on board and maybe strike up a conversation. Nights are especially lovely if you go for a meal, but it can get noisy with all the boat crews and passengers dining as well.

From Fiscardo, you can take a boat excursion to other areas of the island of Kefalonia. You can also take a ferry ride to Lefkada from Fiscardo. If you’re looking for adventure, you can go diving off the coast of Fiscardo. Visibility underwater at Fiscardo can exceed 40 meters, which means you will be able to see a variety of sea life. Fiscardo is home to a dive center and a dive site nearby. Instructors are professionally trained and certified, so you know you will be safe with them. If you prefer to stay above water, you can experience kayaking while in Fiscardo.

If you want to sightsee while in Fiscardo, the Byzantine Basilica of Fiscardo dates back to the 6th century AD. The Venetian Lighthouse still stands at the site and has undergone an extensive renovation to allow it to be preserved. The remains of the basilica are nearby. Though the lighthouse is not open to the public, it is worth stopping to see from the outside.
