Patmos, Greece has many wonderful outdoor activities you can take part in. If you’re the adventurous type, off-roading is the perfect choice. Off-roading is a great way to see the beauty of the island. One interesting route starts from Chora and heads toward Diakoti. This route leads to the highest point of the island where the Chapel of Prophet Elias is located. If you prefer being on the water, sailing is a good option. There are also many hiking trails to be found throughout Patmos.

Visit the Villages of Patmos, Greece

Patmos is home to some charming villages you will enjoy exploring. Grikos is a seaside village located on the southeast side of Patmos. If you’re looking for relaxation, the tranquil environment of Grikos Village is perfect. Chora, the capital of Patmos, is another must-see. The village of Chora is located on the south side of the island and is described as one of the most beautiful villages in the Aegean. The whitewashed houses, cobblestone alleys, and lovely square will take your breath away. Skala Village and Kambos Village are also worth a visit.

Enjoy the Food and Drinks of Patmos

The island of Patmos is known for its specialities that include: pugakia, a traditional sweet made from walnuts and almonds; stuffed goat with onions, liver, cheese, mincemeat, and parsley; cuttlefish and squid burgers; and schinopsomo, a bread made with herbs. Local products of the island of Patmos includes the cheese of kalathotos and thyme honey.

All around Patmos, you will find restaurants and tavernas that serve Greek cuisine, Mediterranean cuisine, and seafood. If you’re a fan of cocktails, there are many places you’ll find delightful drinks. Coffee is also widely available throughout the island.

Patmos, Greece is home to a few museums. The Folklore Museum of Patmos is house in a neoclassical mansion of the Simandiri family. The museum is located in the district of Neohorio in Chora. The museum showcases a collections of family heirlooms, old photographs, and wooden furniture. The Ecclesiastical Museum of Patmos is one of the most important museums in Greece. It is located at the Monastery of Saint John.

The small museum is small, but houses important and interesting portable icons from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine times, manuscripts, and vestments. There is an 11th century icon of Saint Nicolas where he is depicted standing while blessing with his right hand and holding a book in the other. The Mansion of Nikolaidis and the Patmian School are also site that will allow you to experience the history of Patmos, Greece.
