Spend Time at Cape Columbo in Santorini

Written by in , Comments Off on Spend Time at Cape Columbo in Santorini

Are you looking for an idyllic place to spend time on the island of Santorini? Because of the unique geography on the island, there aren’t many beaches. Hover, there is one at Cape Columbo! Located just twelve kilometers from Fira, it’s a spot you can escape to and relax after a day of sightseeing, shopping, and eating. You should consider visiting here! Here’s what you need to know about Cape Columbo in Santorini.

Getting to Cape Columbo

Cape Columbo is located just seventeen kilometers from the Kamari airport and nineteen kilometers from the Athinios port. However, no matter where you are originating on the island, taking a taxi or renting a car to get to the beach won’t be a problem and it won’t take you long to get there if you are coming straight from either place. If you are coming from the capital city of Fira, it’s an even quicker drive. From Oia, you are looking at just a fifteen-minute drive. You can park at one of the two headways and walk down the narrow path.

About Cape Columbo

Cape Columbo is a long grey-black sandy (slightly pebbly) beach that is unorganized, so you will have to bring your own chairs or towels to sit on as well as other provisions such as food and water because there aren’t any places on site to get either. This is a nudist friendly beach, so if that’s your thing, this is the perfect place to go. The landscape around the beach is breathtaking with the tall red rock formations, which were created by the wind and waves that are common to the area. It’s advised you don’t sit right underneath it as the rocks do fall. Cape Columbo is named after the underwater crater named Columbo that lies approximately 8 km away. It last erupted in 1650.

What to Do at Cape Columbo

If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing afternoon lounging under the Greek sun (don’t forget your sun block), Cape Columbo is the perfect spot. It won’t be crowded, so it could make the perfect spot for a romantic date. The view of the Aegean Sea will mesmerize you. The water is hot due to the crater, which is still active today. If you don’t mind the water’s temperature, you can swim to nearby Seal Cove and explore. It’s recommended you be a strong swimmer if you’re going to attempt this activity. Otherwise, swimming and splashing close to shore is a good option.

After a day at the beach, you might want to catch one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world from Oia. Finish the day with dinner and drinks overlooking the water and horizon. If you want to spend some time on the water, you can rent a boat nearby or go on a boat tour. This is another great way to enjoy the sunset. The unique landscape of this beach makes it a perfect place to take photos.

If you’re looking for a quiet, hidden, and unspoiled beach to spend some time while visiting Santorini, Cape Columbo is the ideal spot for relaxing.
