Thessaloniki, the second largest city of Greece, boasts a number of beautiful beaches. The beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag for the excellent waters. If you are visiting Thessaloniki and want enjoy a sandy beach, you can’t go wrong choosing one of the following:

Perea Beach

Perea Beach is located in the small town of Perea approximately 17km south of Thessaloniki. It is both a residential area and a resort area. You can get to Perea via bus, which makes stops along the 7.5km beach allowing you to get as close to your desired spot as possible. When you visit this beach you will have access to restaurants and hotels if you should decide to stay overnight, but it’s close enough to Thessaloniki that it makes for a wonderful day trip. If you’re interested in being on the water instead of the sand, there is a ferry that runs from two points in Thessaloniki (one at the pier on the point and the other near the White Tower) to Perea Beach.

Agia Triada Beach

Agia Triada is a small town located in Thessaloniki. Agia Triada is a long, organized beach equiped with umbrellas and sunbeds. The waters of this beach, like all beaches around Thessaloniki, are crystal-clear. This beach is located approximately 22km from the center of Thessaloniki. You can take the bus to get to this beach as well. If you enjoy the night life, Agia Triada has taverns and restaurants that come alive at night. If you are into history, the area has plenty of historical sites to see including a Mycenaean Shrine and the Light Well, which is believed to have been servants quarters.

Epanomi Beach

Epanomi Beach is located approximately 25km to the south of Thessaloniki. Epanomi is another organized beach and family friendly. You will also find taverns, restaurants, and plenty of accomodations in the area. If you are looking to stray from the beach for a while, you can take in Petralona Cave or the Ktima Gerovassiliou (winery and wine museum), which are both within 5km of the beach.

Asprovalta Beach

Asprovalta is a tourist resort located father away at 80km to the East of Thessaloniki. If you visit Asprovalta beach and decide to stay for a few days, you can visit other nearby locations such as Kavala and Halkidiki. The area of Asprovalta itself contains hotels, camping, and restaurants. The area is perfect for a family vacation as it’s affordable, organized, and convenient. If you decide to stay the evening, you can enjoy Cavo Paradiso, a cafe bar where you will be treated to good music.

If you are planning to visit Thessaloniki, you can’t leave without visiting one of the beautiful beaches it has to offer. Whether you are staying minutes from the beach or closer to the center of the city, accessing the beach is easy and affordable. For a relaxing day laying on the beach, walking up and down the short, or enjoying the town, you can’t go wrong with one of these beaches!
