Mathraki is a small island and the closest one to Corfu. The southern side of the island is where Chorio, the capital, is located. The island of Mathraki is known for its beaches.

If you’re looking for a destination where you have access to a number of beaches, Mathraki is a great choice. The island is home to beautiful beaches that will allow you the chance to relax, swim, watch the sunset, and explore the surrounding areas. Here a some of the beaches you can spend time at when in Mathraki.d

Portello Beach

Located on the eastern coast of Mathraki, Portello Beach is one of the most well-known on the island. Portello Beach is the only sandy beach found in Mathraki and the longest beach at 2 km long. Portello is surrounded by greenery the water is crystal clear. The sheer size of the beach is enough to impress anyone. Portello Beach can be reached from Chorio Village or the port of Plakes.

Kontrakas Beach

Kontrakas Beach is on the western side of the island. This is a secluded cove that features crystal clear water. The beach is pebbled and non-organized. This is the perfect beach if you’re looking for a quiet afternoon of relaxation away from the crowds. There is a road that leads Kontrakas Beach, but it is accessible by foot from almost anywhere on the island as Mathraki covers a small area.

Fyki Beach

Fyki Beach is a large bay with lovely, clean water that is ideal for swimming. The beach is pebbled and there are several rock formations that extend into the sea. Fyki beach is located on the northwestern coast of Mathraki Island and can be accessed by foot or by boat. Fyki Beach is secluded, so if you’re looking for a quiet beach experience, this beach is perfect.

Agouridi Beach

A small cove with both pebbles and sand makes up Agouridi Beach, which is located on the eastern side of Mathraki Island. The water is crystal clear, so you’re sure to want to spend time swimming. The view from both shore and water of the rocky background is unique. It also provides the beach with some isolation. Of course Agouridi Beach can be accessed by foot, like the others. It can also be reached by boat.

Apidies Beach

Apidies Beach can be found in the southwestern area of Mathraki. It is a rocky coast that is within walking distance of Chorio. The beach is non-organized, pebbled, and secluded. There is a small port for fishing boats in the area. Not far, on the southeastern side of Mathraki, you will find Arvanitiko Beach. This beach can also be reached from Chorio on foot. The landscape at this beach alone is worth the visit, but the clean water, pebbles, and relaxing ambiance make it a great beach to spend some time at.

If you love the beach, you’re going to love Mathraki Island. You can’t head in any direction without finding yourself at yet another beach. Visit a different once each day of your trip!
