The beautiful island of Serifos, Greece is home to whitewashed houses, cobblestone alleys, charming villages, and impressive history. Serifos is where you’ll find yourself getting immersed in it all. When visiting the island, you will not have to look far to find something to do.
Traveling to Serifos Island requires a ferry ride. There is no airport on the island and the closest one is located in Athens. From Athens, you can take a ferry to the island of Serifos, which takes about two hours. If you are visiting the islands of Milos, Kythnos, Sifnos, or others in the Cyclades, you can also get ferries from those locations as well.
When you’re in Serifos, here are some of the prominent attractions and beaches you should consider exploring.
The White Tower
The White Tower is a well-preserved tower on the island of Serifos that was built in the 4th century BC. It is a circular marble tower that served as a watchtower. The White Tower is also known as Aspros Pyrgos. It is on a hill over the bay of Koutalas. Next to the tower is the chapel of Agios Charalambos. The church of Agia Triada sits opposite of them. You can also take in the panoramic view from this location.
Livadi Beach
Located 4 km south of Chora, Livadi Beach is partly organized and family friend. The beach is long and mostly sandy with some pebbled areas and clean water you’ll be delighted to swim in. One side of the beach connects to other beaches, so you’ll have different areas to explore if you’re up for it. Around the beach you will find trees that provide natural shade. There are also many facilities as well as bars and traditional taverns. You will be able to enjoy the local cuisine when you get hungry.
The Archaeological Museum of Serifos
The Archaeological Museum is located in the Town Hall of Chora in Piatsa Square. There you will find exhibits that include finds from the Classic, Hellenistic, and Roman periods in excavated areas. Some of these items include vessels, armor parts, marble statuettes, parts of temples, and inscriptions.
Livadakia Beach
Livadakia Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the island of Serifos. It is located just 5 km south of Chora. Livadakia Beach is in the same area as Livadi and Avlemonas Beaches. Its popularity is likely due to the beauty of the area, but also thanks to the number of facilities, accommodations, bars, and taverns. Some of the bars and taverns have seating that extends onto the beach, which adds to the charm of the area. Imagine sipping on cold drinks while you enjoy the view.
The Church of Panagia Skopiani
The Church of Panagia Skopiani is an important religious center in Serifos. It is located close to the village of Kallitsos. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of Virgin Mary and offers amazing panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the Aegean Sea.
