Hersonissos is a town in Crete, Greece. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Crete, so you know there’s going to be a lot to do when you get there. Hersonissos is located 28 km east of Heraklion. Getting to the town of Hersonissos is a breeze from Heraklion. There is an airport in Heraklion and from there you can take a taxi or public transportation straight to Hersonissos.

Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Center
Aquaworld was Crete’s first aquarium, which opened in 1995. The aquarium and reptile center showcase not only local sea life and reptiles from around Crete, but also from around the world. The animals have mostly been rescued or given to the aquarium as they are no longer wanted as pets. The aquarium strives to bring sea life, reptiles, and animals closer together. If you’re a lover of sea life and reptiles, you can’t miss out on this wonderful Hersonissos attraction. Children will love meeting and taking photographs with various animals.
Roman Archaeological Remains
The island of Crete is full of history and Hersonissos is no different. The Roman Archaeological Remains are located around the resort, so if you’re staying in the area, it’s well worth a visit. It is thought the city was abandoned around the 7th century, after raids by Arab pirates. Buildings and structures that have been found to have been on the site include: Workshops (including a bakery), two baths, two burial areas, an aqueduct, a forum, and more. Anyone with an interest in history and exploring ruins will want to visit this amazing site.
Lychnostatis Open Air Museum
At the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum you will find reconstructed merchant and farmhouses as well as wine and olive press. The presses are still in use today. You can take part in workshops that teach traditional techniques for making handicrafts and other goods. The open air museum offers so much to see and do. You can watch a folk music performance that includes dancing, enjoy wine-tasting, and explore the traditional gardens with their herbs, flora, and cacti. Other buildings on the site of the museum include: a windmill, distillery, chapel, ceramic workshop, library, and shoe-making workshop.
Labyrinth Park
If you’re looking for a fun time and you’re traveling with children, you’re going to love the Labyrinth Park in Hersonissos. The park is a Greek mythology-themed park that includes a maze, horseback riding, archery, mini golf, and more. The whole family will enjoy spending the day at this theme park. The Labyrinth maze itself was designed by the world’s number one maze designer Adrian Fisher. It has stairways, overhead bridges, towers, and even rooms. There is a café and souvenir shop at the park.
