Recipe for Sweet Dessert Greek Honey Syrup

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Sweet Dessert Greek Honey Syrup

Syrups are often used in Greek cooking to finish off desserts, such as baklava and loukoumades. Each recipe you follow may have different ways of making syrup. One of the most popular is to mix honey, granulated sugar, and water together. However, using pure honey without the sugar is a little more traditional. This recipe only uses honey, and you can use it as a substitute to any syrup recipe you find.

Sweet Dessert Greek Honey Syrup Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 1/2 cups Greek honey
  • 1/4 cup lemon or orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon or orange rind

Instructions on How to Make Greek Honey Syrup:

Pour the water into a saucepan and add the cinnamon stick. Set the heat to medium and cover the pot. Let it heat together for about five minutes, or until the water starts to bubble.

Stir in the honey, lemon or orange juice, and the lemon or orange rind.

Reduce the heat to medium low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the syrup begins to thicken.

Remove the cinnamon stick and use the syrup immediately, or you may transfer the syrup to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for about five days before using it.
