Recipe for Greek Style Grilled Octopus

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Grilled Octopus

Octopus are commonly found in the sea off the shore of much of Greece, which is why they are commonly found on Greek tables at mealtime. Versions of this recipe are served all over the country.

Greek Style Grilled Octopus Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 whole octopus, cleaned (beak and ink sac removed)
  • 1 recipe oil and vinegar dressing
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh, chopped parsley
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

How to Make Greek Style Grilled Octopus:

Place the octopus in a large pot and set the heat to medium-high. Place the lid on the pot. Let the octopus heat all the way through and then cook it for 5 minutes.

Remove the lid from the pot and check the moisture in the pot. If the octopus didn’t release a lot, place cover back on until the octopus cooks for another 3-5 minutes.

Remove the octopus from the water and place it in a strainer. Let the octopus cool to about room temperature.

While the octopus sits in the strainer, prepare the oil and vinegar dressing according to the recipe instructions. Whisk in the orange juice.

Preheat the gas or charcoal grill. Gas grill should be set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Brush the octopus all over with the oil and vinegar dressing. Place the octopus on the hot grill. Grill on all sides until cooked all the way through. Brush the octopus with the dressing each time you rotate it. It should take about 20-30 minutes for the octopus to be thoroughly cooked.

Sprinkle the octopus with parsley right when it comes off the grill and serve it on a platter. Garnish with lemon wedges.
