Recipe for Greek Style Fruit in Wine and Honey

Written by in , Comments Off on Recipe for Greek Style Fruit in Wine and Honey

This simple dessert is made with fruit that has been soaked in dessert wine and honey. It is much better if you can use traditional products, such as Mavrodaphne sweet red wine and authentic Greek honey, for this dish.

Greek Style Fruit in Wine and Honey (Frouta Glykisma) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sweet red wine (Mavrodaphne)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice (fresh is best)
  • 4 cups coarsely chopped fruit (apple, pear, quince, melon, apricots, cherries, plums, peaches, etc)

How to Prepare Fruit in Wine and Honey:

Pour the wine and honey into a saucepan and set the heat to medium low. Let the mixture heat until the honey dissolves. Stir in the vanilla, add the cinnamon stick, and add the orange juice. Stir in the fruit and set the heat on low. Cover the pan and simmer it until the fruit is soft. This should take about twenty minutes. Serve the fruit with some of the juice from the pan. You can serve it hot or cold.
