This recipe is made in the countryside in Greece with whichever meat can be found. The recipe tastes just as good with lamb, pork, or even goat. This version uses beef, but if that isn’t readily available, feel free to substitute.
Greek Style Country Beef Steak (Brizoles) Recipe Ingredients:
- 6, 8 ounce beef steaks (ribeye is preferred), fat trimmed
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon dried Greek oregano
- 1/2 tablespoon dried marjoram
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup Greek olive oil
- 1/2 cup water mixed with 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 3 tablespoons fresh, chopped parsley
How to Make Greek Style Country Beef Steaks:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a large baking dish with cooking spray.
Place the steaks in a large bowl or dish in a single layer and drizzle with the lemon juice. Set aside.
Grind the coriander, nutmeg, oregano, marjoram, salt, and pepper in a mortar and pestle, coffee grinder, small food processor, nut mill, etc.
Run the spice blend onto both sides of each of the steaks. Arrange in the baking dish and then sprinkle the garlic over the top. Drizzle with the olive oil and then pour the water and tomato paste mixture into the sides of the pan.
Place the baking dish in the center of the oven and bake until cooked all the way through. This should take about an hour. Sprinkle with parsley just before serving.
