Citrus fruits are grown all over Greece and this recipe is commonly prepared throughout the country. The next time you eat citrus fruits, reserve the peels and make this recipe!

Greek Style Candied Citrus Peels Recipe Ingredients:

  • 5-6 pieces mixed citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, grapefruits, etc), peels removed and cut into strips
  • Water, for saucepan
  • 2 tablespoons Greek honey
  • 3 cups granulated sugar

Directions on How to Prepare Greek Style Candied Citrus Peels:

Place the citrus peels in a saucepan and cover the peels with water.

Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil. Let the peels cook for 1-2 minutes after the water boils and then drain them out into a strainer.

Place the peels back into the saucepan and stir in the honey, granulated sugar, and 2 cups of water. Leave the pan uncovered.

Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.

Once the mixture boils, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer until the peels are translucent and the syrup thickens. This should take about 60 minutes. Stir often so that the mixture doesn’t burn.

Pour the peels over sheets of waxed paper in a single layer. Let stand on the wax until the peel and syrup dry.
