The Department of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America will host a colloquium on Orthodox Christianity and Humanitarianism: Ideas and Action in the Contemporary World.The Colloquium will take place on the campus of Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Mass., May 7-8, 2015.
The colloquium will begin to excavate past and present ideas and practices on urgent questions and needs of humanitarianism. Scholar-practitioners from around the world will come together to brainstorm and to build networks with those interested in and dedicated to the engagement between ideas and action in global humanitarianism, i.e. lived theology. The colloquium is made possible through a grant by the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Endowment Fund.
His Grace Bishop Daniel of Pamphilon (President of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA) will deliver the keynote on the evening of May 7.
Panelists and discussants include: His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Kenya, His Grace Bishop Maxim (Serbian Orthodox Church), Dr. Timothy Miller (Salisbury University), Dr. Dana Robert(Boston University), Mr. Samer Laham (Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East), Mr. Michael Nseir and Dr. Audeh Quawa (World Council of Churches), Dr. Joyce Dubensky(Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding) and Mr. Paschalis Papouras (International Orthodox Christian Charities).
