The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England will hold its Annual Memorial Day Remembrance Program in honor of it’s 841 Veterans, who served in the U.S. Armed Forces from WWI to the present, on Sunday, May 27, 2018 following the Divine Liturgy. The Cathedral will welcome many special distinguished guests at a special memorial service for the over 500 deceased veterans officiated by the Rev. Fr. Demetrios E.Tonias, Ph.D. Representatives from the USS Constitution Color Guard, each branch of military service and the George K. Menichios Post 324 American Legion will participate in the proceedings.
The service will include a wreath presentation, a performance of “Taps” and the singing of the “Our Father” by choir member Colleen Palmer. Following the solemn service, a tribute to the many sacrifices and heroic bravery of the Veterans in defense of our freedom will be made by the Massachusetts Secretary of the Department of Veteran Services, former Marine Corp S/Sgt Francisco Urena and Dr. Christopher G. Gussis, Cathedral Veterans Chairman.
The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of choirmaster Dean H. Limberakis will concluded the festivities with “Proud To Be An American” by choir member Timothy Kerr, and a medley of other patriotic musical numbers including “God Bless America,” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Numerous other amenities will also be made for the day. Upon entering the Cathedral, Veterans, or their family members, will be given a special Patriotic Cross Pin of distinction by the Cathedral Youth Organization(GOYA). After the Service, a group photograph will be taken of the various representatives, Veterans and family members by Alex Mavradis.
The Cathedral Veteran’s Carillon, dedicated in memory of the Veterans, will play “Let Their Be Peace on Earth” as attendees file out. The Cathedral Evangelismos Ladies Philoptochos Society will then host a warm reception in the patriotically decorated Davis Fellowship Hall. A wealth of photos and other memorabilia by Alex Mavradis, will be exhibited, showcasing and honoring the contributions of Veterans to the cause of defending American freedom. All members of the Cathedral and interested area Boston Diocese church members are cordially invited to attend what is expected to be a most memorable event. A tradition at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral for over twelve years.
