The Greek Struggle For Macedonia Lecture in Portland Maine

July 28, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

NOTICE OF IMPORTANT LECTURE
THE GREEK STRUGGLE FOR MACEDONIA
JULY 28, 2019
On Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Holy Trinity Parish House in Portland after
liturgy, Mr. Valantis Papageorgiou will present a talk regarding the centuries-long
struggle over the Macedonian legacy and the name ‘Macedonia’ which became
highly emotional issues in Greece and among Greeks in recent years. Our speaker
has devoted much time and energy on these matters and published a book in 2006,
The Macedonian Struggle in the Area of Kampania. He will discuss the recent
agreement resolving some of those issues and the impact that the latest Greek
elections might have on the situation. There will be time for questions and
discussion.
We are privileged to have such a distinguished authority speak to us on these
complex and vexing relations. He is an accomplished author, lawyer, instructor and
diplomat who has held many political offices in both countries and has served in
many leadership capacities for cultural development. He has four degrees in
theology, history, law and journalism, and is a candidate for the PhD. He speaks
five languages.
A light lunch will be provided. If you are unfamiliar with these events and want to
learn more about these important issues in Greek and Macedonian life, do not miss
this one-time opportunity to hear Mr. Papageorgiou who is visiting from Greece
this summer. There is no charge for the event. Seating is limited. Donations are
welcome. See you all there.
