• Thursday, Dec. 4 from 7:15-8:15 p.m.- Hours 22-24 Plato and Beyond
The Harvard Allston Education Portal will host in-person “Dialogue Sessions,” or discussion groups, led by a Harvard teaching assistant for The Ancient Greek Hero in 24 Hours, or HeroesX, a free online educational project directed by Harvard Professor Gregory Nagy that introduces participants to the literature and heroes of ancient Greece.
Similar to a book club, the Allston dialogue sessions will be an opportunity for interested community members to come and participate with fellow local learners, discuss the content, and engage in community and conversation. Explore the unique meaning of “hero” in ancient Greece and how it enriches our understanding of what it means to be human today, from the larger-than-life contributions of solitary figures to artistic memorials and public rituals, including poetry, visual art, and dramatic reenactments.
The dialogue sessions are intended for all audiences, from the casually interested, to literary enthusiasts, to Greek history buffs. No previous knowledge of Greek history, literature, or language is expected. Access materials online HERE. Enrollment is free and all reading materials are available for free online. New participants are welcome throughout the duration of the project.
