Clay Pell is a Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate with Greek roots. He is the grandson of the late Senator Claiborne Pell who established the Pell Grant program so all students can go to college. Clay previously served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, Director for Strategic Planning on the National Security Council and a Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education. Clay’s wife, Michelle Kwan, is America’s most decorated figure skater.
