This aromatic beverage is often served in Greece throughout the Christmas season. Use traditional sweet Greek wine like Mavrodaphne and also Greek honey if you can find it.
Greek Style Mulled Wine (Krasomelo) Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 bottle sweet red wine (Mavrodaphne)
- 5 tablespoons Greek honey
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 6 whole cloves
- 1 whole anise seed
- Juice of 1/2 a fresh orange
- 1/3 cup Greek brandy (optional)
How to Prepare Mulled Wine:
Pour the the wine into a saucepan and set the heat to medium. Stir in the honey and let it cook for a minute until the honey starts dissolving. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and anise and set the heat to low. Cover the pan and simmer the mixture for about 20 minutes. Stir in the orange juice and simmer for another 5 minutes. Stir in the brandy just before serving to give the recipe an extra kick. This step is optional.
